India Post handles over 7 billion mail items annually but its customer-facing infrastructure — manual counters, handwritten receipts, paper-based weighing — hasn't kept pace with the volume or expectation of modern users. The brief was to design a concept kiosk system that could autonomously accept parcels from customers, weigh them, calculate postage, collect payment, and print a receipt — reducing queue times and staffing requirements at post offices.
Dakiya was designed as a complete system concept: a freestanding kiosk with a parcel insertion bay, integrated precision load cell weighing, a touchscreen interface guiding users step by step, a thermal receipt printer, and a UPI/card payment terminal. The UI was designed around India Post's brand and accessibility requirements — large text, multiple language support, and a flow that required zero prior knowledge to complete. The industrial design was optimised for high-footfall public spaces.
Dakiya was developed as a detailed working mockup demonstrating the full end-to-end parcel acceptance flow. The concept validated that a single kiosk could handle a parcel transaction in under 90 seconds with no staff involvement. The design was well-received as a viable modernisation pathway for high-volume post office locations.
